The Challenges:

To say supply chain management is a fluid industry is an understatement. Sudden, unexpected changes in circumstances can dramatically approach the ways companies approach their inventory, shipping and warehousing needs. Factors such as trade-relations, tariffs, the weather, labor issues and the like can render long-standing effective strategies as cost ineffective overnight. Companies need partners that can adapt to changing market conditions and design solutions that are dynamic and resourceful as challenges increase in complexity.

Our client produces amenity travel kits for a major 1st class and business travelers. These travel kits were prepared, and plastic wrapped to include several products for the weary traveler (i.e. sleeping masks, toothbrush and toothpaste, etc.)

One of the products in the amenity kit was a small container of hand sanitizer. This hand sanitizer came from a factory which was under inspection and surveillance by the FDA. Subsequently, as a result of laboratory violations the FDA issued a black box warning on the hand sanitizer rendering the product unable to be used. As a result, more than 1,000,000 amenity kits with this hand sanitizer were rendered useless. The problem was these kits had already been shipped and on their way to the airline.

The Unilogic Solution:

Our client wanted to salvage these kits and needed a solution that would prevent the total loss of over 1,000,000 amenity kits. Unilogic would recover the amenity kit shipments from the rail ramp and bring to our warehouse. One by one members or our team would remove the plastic wrap from the amenity kits. After opening the kits and removing the hand sanitizer containers the kits would be repackaged in plastic wrap and shipment completed to the airline. We developed a time-studied protocol to streamline the process and then trained our warehouse crew to expedite the process.
